Scoring Changed to Point a Rally
from 1 April 2009
On 1 April 2009 the primary and official scoring system for
the game of squash changed to point a rally (“PAR”).
This change was adopted at the Annual General Meeting of the
World Squash Federation held in Manchester, England in
October 2008. A uniform scoring system is now in place at
professional, national and club levels for Men and Women.
The official and primary scoring system for Singles
is now as follows:
• Play is PAR to 11 points.
• At 10-10 a player must win by two points.
The official and primary scoring system for International
Doubles is now as follows:
• Play is PAR to 11 points.
• At 10-10 the game is determined by “sudden death” - won by the first
team to win 11 points.
For Singles, the traditional “hand-in, hand-out” scoring to
9 points and PAR to 15 points are included in Appendix 7 as
alternative scoring methods. For Doubles, the traditional
PAR to 15 scoring remains as an alternative in Appendix 7.
These alternatives allow administrators to adopt a different
scoring system (often for social competition) if thought
more appropriate.
